54. Kaval Karangal Scheme

Launch Date:

Aim:

  • The aim of the Kaval Karangal Scheme is to enhance public safety by rescuing and providing necessary assistance to vulnerable groups, specifically elderly people, women, children, and mentally ill individuals who are found wandering on the streets.
  • This scheme ensures that these individuals receive the care and support they need, preventing them from facing potential dangers or exploitation.

  • Mentally ill individuals

Eligibility:

  • Eligibility for assistance under this scheme is determined by the presence and condition of the individuals on the streets.
  • Any elderly person, woman, child, or mentally ill individual found wandering and in need of assistance qualifies for the program.

Additional Information:

  • The scheme was launched with a formal event at the Rajarathinam Stadium in Egmore.
  • Through collaboration with private entities, the scheme was equipped with rescue vehicles and first aid equipment to support the Kaval Karangal team and volunteers.
  • Emergency call numbers 1091 (women's helpline), 1098 (child helpline), 1253, and 100 (police control room) have been integrated to operate in coordination through a centralized control room, ensuring a swift response to distress calls related to the scheme.

55. Kalaignar's Dream Home

Launch Date:

Aim:

  • The aim of the "Kalaignar's Dream Home" scheme is to address homelessness and improve living conditions in rural areas by providing permanent, safe, and concrete homes to individuals currently living in slum dwellings.
  • This initiative seeks to transform Tamil Nadu into a slum-free state and uplift the quality of life for its rural population.

Beneficiary:

  • The beneficiaries of this scheme are homeless individuals living in rural areas of Tamil Nadu. Specifically, those identified through surveys as residing in slum dwellings.

Eligibility:

  • Eligibility is determined by a special committee consisting of local officials, engineers, and representatives.
  • The committee evaluates and approves the list of eligible slum dwellings in village council meetings.
  • This ensures that the most deserving individuals and families receive housing support.

Additional Information:

  • The scheme aims to construct 800,000 homes by 2030, with a target of 100,000 homes to be built in the first phase during 2024-25.
  • Each home will cost approximately 350,000 rupees.
  • Beneficiaries who are landless will be provided with free housing plots.
  • Funds for construction will be deposited directly into the beneficiaries' bank accounts to ensure transparency and efficiency.
  • Beneficiaries can obtain loans from cooperative banks if they wish to build homes that exceed the project's cost estimation.
  • Each house must be at least 360 square feet, with 300 square feet featuring reinforced concrete (RCC) roofing and 60 square feet constructed with non-combustible materials.

56. One Village One Crop Scheme

Aim:

  • The aim of the "One Village One Crop" scheme is to optimize agricultural productivity by cultivating crops that are best suited to the soil characteristics of each village.
  • This targeted approach helps maximize yields, improve soil health, and increase the profitability of farming activities.

Beneficiary:

  • The primary beneficiaries are farmers in selected villages.

Eligibility:

  • Based on the soil characteristics of the village.
  • Villages are selected through soil testing, which identifies the most suitable crops for cultivation over an area of 5 to 10 acres.

Additional Information:

  • Crops will be chosen based on soil suitability, with options including cereals (rice, ragi, millet, maize), minor cereals (barnyard millet), oilseeds (sunflower, sesame), pulses (black gram, green gram), and cash crops (cotton, sugarcane).
  • Farmers in selected villages will receive support such as loan assistance, crop insurance, and pest management solutions.
  • The government will provide training on agricultural practices to ensure successful implementation.
  • Soil testing will guide the use of appropriate fertilizers, enhancing crop productivity and soil health.

57. VEERA Rescue Vehicle

  • Chennai Traffic Police.

Aim:

  • The VEERA (Vehicle for Extrication in Emergency Rescue and Accidents) initiative aims to enhance road safety by providing a specialized rescue vehicle designed to extricate individuals trapped in accident-damaged vehicles.
  • This initiative seeks to reduce road accident fatalities and improve emergency response times.

Beneficiary:

  • The primary beneficiaries are individuals involved in road accidents who require immediate rescue from damaged vehicles.

Eligibility:

  • Eligibility is determined by the occurrence of a road accident.
  • The VEERA vehicle responds to incidents where individuals are trapped and require extrication.

Additional Information:

  • The VEERA vehicle is a collaboration between the Chennai Traffic Police, Hyundai Clovis, and Isuzu Motors Private Limited as part of a corporate social responsibility initiative.
  • The vehicle is equipped with advanced tools and staffed by a trained police team to efficiently carry out rescue operations.
  • This initiative represents a pioneering effort to improve road safety and emergency response capabilities in Chennai.

58. Manarkeni App

Launch Date:

  • July 25, 2023.

Ministry or Nodal Agency:

  • Tamil Nadu Department of School Education.

Aim:

  • The Manarkeni app aims to democratize education by providing accessible and high-quality video lessons to school students across Tamil Nadu.
  • The app supports innovative learning methods to ensure all students can pursue higher education.

Beneficiary:

  • The primary beneficiaries are school students in Tamil Nadu, particularly those in grades 1 to 12.

Eligibility:

  • All students in Tamil Nadu are eligible to use the app, with video content currently available for grades 6, 7, 8, 11, and 12.

Additional Information:

  • The app includes video lessons as teaching aids for teachers.
  • Developed by the State Council for Education, Research, and Training (SCERT), the content covers subjects such as science, mathematics, English, physics, chemistry, botany, and zoology.
  • The app features 2D and 3D animations to help students understand and retain concepts.
  • Each video lesson concludes with a quiz to assess students' understanding.
  • Videos and quizzes can be downloaded without any barriers, ensuring continuous learning.
  • The app has been downloaded 200,000 times and is now also accessible via the Manarkeni website.

59. Kuruvai Paddy Cultivation Package Scheme

Launch Date:

  • June 12, 2023.

Ministry or Nodal Agency:

  • Tamil Nadu Department of Agriculture.

Aim:

  • The Kuruvai Paddy Cultivation Package Scheme aims to promote extensive cultivation of Kuruvai paddy in the Cauvery Delta districts.
  • The scheme seeks to reduce farming costs and increase yields, benefiting the overall agricultural productivity in these regions.

Beneficiary:

  • The primary beneficiaries are farmers in the Cauvery Delta districts, including Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and delta areas of Cuddalore, Ariyalur, and Tiruchirappalli districts.

Eligibility:

  • Eligibility is determined by the geographical location of the farmers, focusing on those in the specified Cauvery Delta districts.

Additional Information:

  • The package includes full subsidies for fertilizers and a 50% subsidy for paddy seeds, green manure seeds, power tillers, and power weeders.
  • Over 600,000 farmers benefit from this scheme.
  • The scheme provides 30,000 tons of fertilizers with a 100% subsidy and 2,478 tons of paddy seeds with a 50% subsidy.
  • Additionally, alternate crop seeds and green manure seeds are provided with a 50% subsidy.

60. 'Meendum Manjappai' Scheme

Launch date:

  • December 23, 2021.

Ministry or Nodal Agency:

  • Tamil Nadu Department of Environment, Climate Change, and Forests.

Aim:

  • To combat plastic pollution by promoting the use of reusable cloth bags and reducing the usage of single-use plastics.

Beneficiary:

  • The entire population of Tamil Nadu, particularly those who use plastic bags in their daily lives.

Eligibility:

  • All residents of Tamil Nadu are encouraged to participate in this scheme.

Additional Information:

  • The average time a plastic bag is used by people is just 20 minutes, but it takes several hundred years for them to decompose.
  • This excessive plastic pollution has severely impacted our planet, causing massive destruction to our environment and the health of our children, including marine life.
  • Considering this, the Tamil Nadu government had previously imposed a ban on 14 types of single-use plastic items and enforced strict measures.
  • However, the implementation of the ban was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The current Tamil Nadu government has now started working intensively to re-implement this ban.
  • The objective of the "Meendum Manjappai" campaign is to raise awareness about avoiding the use of plastic bags and encourage the habit of using alternative cloth bags among the public.
