- Around 170 member states and the European Union convened to discuss deep-sea mining regulations.
- The ISA is an autonomous international organisation, formed in 1994.
- It was created when the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) became effective in 1982.
- ISA manages mining and related activities on the international seabed.
- Deep-sea mining involves extracting minerals from the ocean floor at depths greater than 200 metres.
