- On April 19, 1975, India launched its first satellite, Aryabhata.
- Designed and built indigenously by ISRO, an Aryabhata was launched aboard a Soviet Kosmos-3M rocket from USSR.
- The mission aimed to conduct the experiments in X-ray astronomy, solar physics, and aeronomics.
- But five days after entering orbit, Aryabhata suffered a power failure.
- Communication was lost, and the scientific objectives were cut short.
