  • Researchers spotted a large-sized adult antlion, palpares contrarius in Chennai.
  • Though it looks like a dragonfly, it has an antenna and a distinct fluttering flight which separates it from them.
  • Antlions are found mostly in Africa, Myanmar, Thailand, and Sri Lanka and are seen in isolated parts of India such as Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Mizoram, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh.
  • The incidence of palpares contrarius in MCC is a new record in Tamil Nadu.
