WHO published a report calling for compassion in primary healthcare systems.
The Compassion (characterised by awareness, empathy and action) is identified as a transformative force for PHC, driving quality care and health system transformation.
India has an extensive primary healthcare system.
There are sub-centres in the remote areas serving 3,000-5,000 people, primary health centres (PHCs) serving 20,000-30,000 people, and community health centres (CHCs) for 80,000-1,20,000 people.
In all, there are 1.6 lakh sub-centres; 26,636 PHCs; and 6,155 CHCs.
