The dog-faced water snake (Cerberus rynchops) was spotted for the first time in Northeast India.
Cerberus rynchops is a mildly venomous, semi-aquatic species that thrives in saltwater.
Typically, this snake is found in the mangrove forests, coastal mudflats, and the estuaries across South and Southeast Asia.
In India, it has been recorded in coastal regions such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
