August 31 , 2024 18 hrs 0 min 9 0
  • The Dhangar community is a pastoral and nomadic tribal group in Maharashtra.
  • They have intensified their efforts to reclaim traditional grazing lands due the shrinking spaces for their sheep and goats.
  • They are renowned for their migratory shepherding practices and traditionally traverse vast distances to ensure the sustenance of their flocks.
  • Much of their grazing land was lost in 1996 after the state government declared Dnyanganga wildlife sanctuary.
  • The community seeks defined grazing corridors under the Forest Rights Act of 2006.
