This day focuses on addressing the urgent need to protect journalists and bring those who harm them to justice.
It’s a day to stand up for the right to freedom of expression and to honor those who have lost their lives in the pursuit of truth.
The date was chosen in commemoration of the assassination of two French journalists in Mali on 2 November 2013.
Between 2006 and 2024, over 1,700 journalists have been killed around the world.
Theme of 2024 is Safety of Journalists in Crises and Emergencies.
