International Jaguar Day 2024 - November 29

  • It brings the attention to the myriad conservation efforts led by the governments, organisations and individuals.
  • In 1973, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) classified jaguars as an endangered species.
  • The date was chosen to coincide with the birthday of Liso, a jaguar rehabilitated by the Belize Zoo, in Central America.
  • It is found in 18 countries from Mexico to Argentina, jaguars live mostly in Brazil, where most wild jaguars are found.
  • In 2020, the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) launched a plan to help increase jaguar numbers and protect their habitats by 2030.
