Megaliths in Kerala & Buddhist Finds in Odisha

  • A huge number of the megalithic structures have been discovered during a recent archaeological excavation near the Malampuzha dam in Palakkad, Kerala.
  • The ASI discovered ancient inscriptions at Kadapa's Lankkamala Reserve Forest in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The survey led to the discovery of three rock shelters.
  • One of these contained prehistoric paintings are depicting the animals, geometric patterns, and human figures.
  • The paintings are dating back to the Megalithic (Iron Age) and the early historic periods (2500 BCE-2nd century CE).
  • In Odisha’s Ratnagiri, the thrree colossal Buddha heads, a brick stupa with a crisscross design, a rectangular chaitya complex, and a slew of votive stupas featuring deities like Tara, Chunda, and Manjusri were found.
