- Researchers of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), have discovered a new species of Congrid eel and named it after Tamil.
- The species, belonging to the genus Ariosoma, was found off the Thoothukudi coast.
- It was named tamilicum, “with reference to the world’s oldest language, Tamil.
