- Tamil Nadu govt upgraded Sriperumbudur and Mamallapuram town panchayats into second-grade municipalities.
- Along with this, Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district has also been upgraded to a second-grade municipality.
- The state has 25 municipal corporations, 138 municipalities and 490 town panchayats under the control of the municipal administration department.
