  • On April 1, 1936, the British Government officially carved Odisha out of the Bihar and Orissa Province, granting it independent administrative status.
  • Odisha, along with Bihar and Jharkhand, was a part of the Bengal Presidency.
  • The demand for a separate state was initiated from the desire to safeguard the Odisha’s linguistic and cultural identity.
  • Madhusudan Das, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das and Fakir Mohan Senapati were the prominent leaders of the movement.
