The Scientists at the CSIR-NBRI in Lucknow claim to have developed the world's first genetically modified (GM) cotton.
It is totally resistant to the Pink Bollworm (PBW).
PBW is a devastating pest affecting cotton crop in India, Africa and Asia.
A PBW infestation has been reported from Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and other cotton-growing belts in central and southern India since 2015-2016.
