- Karnataka has become the first in the country to have a separate comprehensive policy for victims of burns.
- The policy incorporates insurance, housing, rehabilitation, employment and the other welfare measures including pension for burn victims.
- A burn is an injury to the skin or other organic tissue primarily caused by heat.
- Skin injuries due to the ultraviolet radiation, radio activity, electricity or the chemicals, as well as respiratory damage resulting from smoke inhalation, are also considered to be burns.
