Karnataka has become the first in the country to have a separate comprehensive policy for victims of burns.
The policy incorporates insurance, housing, rehabilitation, employment and the other welfare measures including pension for burn victims.
A burn is an injury to the skin or other organic tissue primarily caused by heat.
Skin injuries due to the ultraviolet radiation, radio activity, electricity or the chemicals, as well as respiratory damage resulting from smoke inhalation, are also considered to be burns.
