- Tamil Nadu government replaced the Rupee symbol "₹" with the Tamil script "ரூ" in the logo for the state's 2025-26 budget.
- The Tamil word ‘Rupaai’ itself has deep roots in the Sanskrit word ‘Rupya,’ meaning ‘wrought silver’ or ‘a worked silver coin.’
- The rupee symbol was designed by D Udaya Kumar from Tamil Nadu.
- The symbol was approved in 2010.
