- A recent report titled “Smuggling in India 2024” is released by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
- The agency recorded 47 cases in 2023-24 of smuggling of cocaine through the air route, against 21 cases the previous year.
- 1,319 kg of gold seized during 2023-24 compared to 600 kg the year before.
- It recorded cases of FTA misuse worth ₹1,427 crore during 2023-24 compared to ₹481 crore in 2022-2023.
- This region - Death Crescent, comprising Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, is a primary source of heroin trafficked into India.
- This area - Death Triangle encompassing Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, is a significant source of synthetic drugs and heroin.
