The number of big cats in the Nagarjuna Sagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) in the Nallamala forest area in Andhra Pradesh has increased from 74 in 2023 to 76 in 2024.
In 2018, the reserves had 47 tigers which has swelled to 76 in the last six years, an increase of 61.7 per cent.
There are 393 tigers in the five tiger reserves of the Karnataka State (Bandipur, Nagarahole, Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Bhadra, and Kali tiger reserves) as per the 2024 Phase IV monitoring conducted by the Karnataka.
The Karnataka State had 408 tigers in the 2023 exercise, 417 in 2022, while it was 472 in the 2018 exercise.
