- The House passed a Bill to amend the Land Reforms (Fixation of Ceiling on Land) Act to promote gender equality.
- This amendment provides rights to unmarried women on a par with those of unmarried men.
- The Government brought an amendment to the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act, 1937.
- It enhances the punishment term to a maximum of 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine up to Rs 5 lakh for offences like brewing and sale of liquor.
- In case of death due to consumption of illicit liquor, the punishment for bootleggers will be life imprisonment with a fine of not less than Rs 10 lakh.
- The Assembly passed a bill to amend the Tamil Nadu Transparency in Tenders Act, 1998.
- It aims to omit the Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company Limited and the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Fund Management Corporation Limited from the purview of clause (j) of Section 16 of the Act.
