- Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TACTV) is a public sector company under the Government of Tamil Nadu.
- The Tamil Nadu Government Cable Television Corporation was incorporated on 04.010.2007 under the Indian Companies Act, 1956.
- For this, digital hubs were set up at Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and Vellore at a cost of Rs 8 crore each.
- Before the advent of the Arasu Cable TV Corporation, the industry was dominated by few private Multi System Operators (MSO) who were charging exorbitant rate of subscription from the Cable TV operators and the public.
- So, its main objective is to provide the best cable television service to the public at a low cost.
Objectives
- To reach out to the maximum customer base under the regulations of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for distribution of digital cable TV services.
- To promote livelihood of the LCOs registered with the Corporation.
- To provide citizen centric services through Arasu e-Sevai Centers in Local Bodies, Taluk Offices and District Collectorates.
- To provide Internet connectivity to every household.

- To provide high quality Digital Cable TV service to the public at an affordable cost through the Local Cable Operators.
- To provide enabling environment to facilitate the livelihood of Local Cable Operators through cable TV and Internet Services.

- To phase out Analog transmission and promote Digital Cable TV services.
- To establish role model e-sevai front offices for the benefit of the public.
ABOUT TACTV
- Arasu Cable TV Corporation was incorporated on 04.10.2007 with the objective of providing high quality cable TV signals to the public at an affordable cost.
- In order to achieve this objective, 4 Digital Head Ends were installed at Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore and Vellore.
- In May 2011 the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha revived the Arasu Cable TV Corporation which had become defunct due to various reasons and sanctioned a sum of ₹3 Crores for the revival and expansion of the activities of the Corporation.
- The Corporation was renamed as Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TACTV).
- TACTV has taken on lease the Head Ends of the willing private Multi System Operators in 27 Districts of the State.
- Then revamped its existing four digital Head Ends in 4 Districts.
- In the Assembly speech on 30.8.2011, the tariff of Tamil Nadu Government Cable TV Company was reported as Rs.70.
- On 2.9.2011 the first cable television corporation headquarters was started at Vellore.
- Then this service was provided to Chennai city areas from 20.10.2012.
- TACTV is providing quality Cable TV Services at an affordable cost of ₹180 per month with 90-100 channels.
- The response from the cable operators and the public were overwhelming.
- When the company launched its services on 2nd September 2011, the subscriber base of the company was 4.94 lakhs.
- As on 31.03.2013 the number of subscribers has increased to 62.17 lakhs.
- The Tamil Nadu Government Cable Television Corporation offers a spectrum of 137 pay channels.
- At present TACTV is providing the Cable TV services with 99-100 Channels, including Free-to-Air Channels, Pay Channels and Private Local Channels.
- The service provided by the Tamil Nadu Government Cable Television Corporation is an organization created by the government for the benefit of the public and the cable operators.
- TACTV has selected 1200 private local channels and issued allotment orders, out of which approximately 800 are running through TACTV.
Digital Cable TV Service
- Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, granted the DAS License to TACTV on 17.04.2017 for providing Digital Cable TV Service.
- TACTV is the first State Government Undertaking in the Cable TV industry to get DAS License in the Country.
- In order to ensure best quality pictures with the latest Digital Cable TV technology, TACTV also upgraded its existing MPEG2 Digital Head End at Chennai to MPEG4 Digital Head End.
- It has the highest channel capacity in digital transmission.
- TACTV started the Digital Cable TV Service with the upgraded MPEG4 Digital Head End at Chennai
- It distributed free Standard Definition Set Top Boxes on 01.09.2017.
- The High-Definition Cable TV service was started on 02.07.2018 at 5 locations Chennai, Salem, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli and Madurai.
- TACTV is providing Digital Cable service at the subscription fee of Rs.140+GST with 218channels (136 FTA channels + 82 PAY channels).
- This is the lowest Digital Cable TV subscription rate in the country.
- The revenue sharing pattern is fixed as Rs.70/-+GST for TACTV and Rs.70/-+GST for Local Cable TV Operators.
- Steps are being taken to provide New STBs with the latest technology to ensure that quality digital TV signals are reaching the common people at an affordable cost.
Arasu e-Sevai Centers
- TACTV has established Arasu e-Sevai Centers to provide Government to Citizen Services (G2C) in 2014.
- At present, TACTV is operating 511 Arasu e-Sevai centers across the State in urban areas and providing 136 Citizen Centric Services.
- In addition to the above, the following service is exclusively provided.
- Uploading the Certificates of shortlisted candidates for Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
- Printing of replacement Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC).
- Online registration of textbooks being sold by Tamil Nadu Textbook Corporation and Education services.
- A notification has been issued inviting the owners of urban internet browsing centers who are willing to operate under the joint revenue sharing system of the company.
- So far 2148 applicants have been given permission by the government.
Permanent Enrolment Centers (PECs) for Aadhaar
- The Government of Tamil Nadu appointed Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) and Commissionerate of e-Governance as Registrar for Aadhaar enrolment in Tamil Nadu.
- The TNeGA has authorized TACTV to act as Enrolment agency for Aadhaar enrolment from 01.10.2016.
- TACTV has established 318 Permanent Enrolment Centers across the State.
- Steps will be taken to increase the counters in the above mentioned 318 Permanent Enrolment Centers based on requirement from public.
Tamil Nadu Internet and Connectivity Services Limited (TANICS)
- TACTV has formed a subsidiary company namely, Tamil Nadu Internet and Connectivity
- Services Ltd. (TANICS) on 05.11.2020, to provide internet related services to the public at an affordable cost.
- Steps will be taken to obtain the ISP License from Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
