- The China’s EAST (Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak) reactor is an advanced nuclear fusion experimental research device.
- The EAST Tokamak device is designed to mimic the energy generation process of the sun.
- It replicates the process of nuclear fusion process carried out by the sun and stars.
- It has set a new record after it ran at 216 million degrees Fahrenheit (120 million degrees Celsius) for 101 seconds.
- EAST is one of three major domestic tokamaks that are presently being operated across the country.
- Other two are HL-2A reactor and J-TEXT.
- Also, in 2020, South Korea’s KSTAR reactor set a record by maintaining a plasma temperature of 100 million degrees C for 20 seconds.
