- The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved the procurement of 10 Kamov Ka-31 Russian helicopters for Indian Navy.
- DAC is headed by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
- These choppers are Airborne Early Warning and Control helicopters
- So, they would be deployed on the aircraft carriers and warships of the Navy.
- They will be used to dominate and protect the air space when aircraft carriers are carrying out
- defence operations in open sea
- anti-submarine warfare operations.
