- The year 2024 marks the tenth year of the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).
- Under the scheme, a basic savings bank deposit (BSBD) account can be opened in any bank branch or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitra) outlet.
- As of Aug 14, 2024, there were over 53.14 crore beneficiaries.
- 66.6% of these accounts are in rural and semi-urban areas, with women accounting for 55.6% of all accounts.
- These accounts now hold deposits totalling Rs 2.31 lakh crore, reflecting a 15-fold rise in eight years.
- Around 8.4% of accounts with zero balances and approximately 20% of accounts being inactive.
