The 42nd Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), PSLV-C40, was launched successfully by ISRO from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota.
It placed 31 satellites across two orbits.
The primary payload of PSVL-C40 was the country's fourth satellite in the remote sensing Cartosat-2 series. It is the 100th satellite of India and ISRO’s first satellite launch in 2018.
Out of 30 other co-passenger smaller satellites 28 are from other countries. It carried satellites from US, UK, France, Finland, Korea, and Canada.
Imagery from Cartosat-2 will be used to develop various land and geographical information system application.
