- The President of India has given her assent to the 106th amendment bill.
- This amendment is known as women’s reservation Bill.
- It seeks to provide 33% reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
- There is quota within quota for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) women.
- Though it was introduced as the Constitution (128th) Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, now it will be known as the Constitution (106th Amendment) Act.
- The law will be implemented after the next census and the subsequent delimitation exercise.
