125 years of Kodaikanal Solar Observatory

  • Kodaikanal Solar Observatory (KSO) is India’s oldest and one of the world’s oldest solar observatories.
  • On 1st April, the observatory celebrated its 125th birth anniversary.
  • The observatory, started in the year 1899, is set an altitude of 2100 m on top of the pretty hills in the lap of the Western Ghats.
  • It has a continuous daily record of the Sun, with over 1.2 lakh digitised solar images.
