- It is observed to increase awareness about organ donation amongst the people.
- The Indian Organ Donation Day has been observed since 2010 in the country.
- Earlier, this day used to be observed every year on 27 November.
- From 2023 onwards, it is observed on 3rd August.
- On this day in 1994, the first successful deceased donor heart transplant was conducted in India.
- On 8th July 1994, the Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994 was enacted in India.
- The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has declared July as the month of organ donation in the country.
