  • It was released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI).
  • The unemployment rate for persons aged 15 years and above in January-March 2022 was 8.2% in urban areas.
  • This is the lowest unemployment rate recorded in the last 4 years.
  • The NSO launched the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) in April 2017.
  • Joblessness or unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons among the labour force.
  • It aims to estimate the key employment and unemployment indicators (viz. Worker Population Ratio, Labour Force Participation Rate, Unemployment Rate) in the short time interval of three months for the urban areas only in the Current Weekly Status.
  • It aims to estimate employment and unemployment indicators in both usual Status and Current Weekly Status in both rural and urban areas annually.
  • Under CWS, a person is considered unemployed if he/she did not work even for one hour on any day during the week but sought or was available for work at least for one hour on any day during the period.
