- The Vice President led delegates took part in the 19th ASEAN-India summit at Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
- ASEAN and India hold annual summits since 2002 to elevate political, security, economic and socio-cultural ties.
- The Vice President also addressed the 17th East Asia Summit at Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
- The East Asia Summit was held as part of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits in Phnom Penh.
- ASEAN has agreed in principle to admit East Timor as the group's 11th member.
- It would be the first new member of the regional grouping in more than two decades, since Cambodia was admitted in 1999.
- East Timor was previously part of Indonesian territory.
- It was recognized by the United Nations in 2002.
- This makes it the youngest democracy in Asia.
