- Japanese scientists have successfully created the first-ever artificial crater on an asteroid.
- It would give some clue on how the solar system evolved.
- The baseball-sized explosive released by the Hayabusa 2 spacecraft managed to knock a considerable hole in the asteroid.
- Hayabusa 2 space probe shot a projectile at the Ryugu asteroid around 340 million kilometres from Earth.
- It aims to explore the origin of life and the evolution of the solar system.
- The mission was launched in December 2014 and is scheduled to return to Earth with its samples in 2020.
