Due to the continued efforts of India, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on 19 December 2019 designating 21st May as ‘International Tea Day’.
It was adopted in 2019 by the United Nations food and Agriculture Organization.
India is the second largest tea producing country after China.
India accounts for 23% of the total tea production of the world.
Also India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of black tea in the world.
