- Norwegian Nobel Committee has selected Dr. Denis Mukwege (63) and Nadia Murad (25) jointly for the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize award.
- They were given award for their efforts to end use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict.
- Denis Mukwege is Congolese gynaecological surgeon.
- He was awarded prize for defending victims of war-time sexual violence in African nation of Democratic Republic of Congo.
- Nadia Murad was one of the thousand Yazidi women who escaped from IS captivity and spoke out in public about abuse she and other women underwent.
- In 2016, Murad was named UN’s first Goodwill Ambassador for Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking.
