- The Hungarian capital Budapest was officially confirmed as the host city of the 2023 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships.
- The decision in this regard was taken at the IAAF Council meeting held in Monaco.
- The World Championships will return to Europe after a six-year hiatus following Doha, Qatar in 2019 and Eugene, USA in 2021.
- The 2017 IAAF World Championships was held at London, England.
- Budapest has been awarded the title of European Capital of Sport for 2019.
