- The 22nd law Commission was constituted under Justice Rituraj Awasthi for a period of three years on February 21, 2020.
- The Union Cabinet now extended by one-and-a-half year (August 31, 2024) the term of the 22nd Law Commission.
- The commission is mandated to identify laws which are “no longer relevant” and recommend for their repeal.
- The Law Commission is a non-statutory body, constituted by the Ministry of Law & Justice under the central government from time to time.
- The term of the 21st Law Commission ended on August 31, 2018.
