- The 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) concluded recently in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.
- It was held under the AU's theme of the year for 2024, "Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa."
- It adopted the second 10-year (2024-2033) implementation plan of Agenda 2063, also known as the decade of acceleration.
- The African Union (AU) is a continental body consisting of the 55 member states.
- In 1963, the Organization of African Unity was founded by the independent states of Africa.
- In 2002, the Organization of African Unity was succeeded by the African Union.
