The 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) concluded recently in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa.
It was held under the AU's theme of the year for 2024, "Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa."
It adopted the second 10-year (2024-2033) implementation plan of Agenda 2063, also known as the decade of acceleration.

In 1963, the Organization of African Unity was founded by the independent states of Africa.
In 2002, the Organization of African Unity was succeeded by the African Union.
