- Film star Amitabh Bachchan was awarded the third Sayaji Ratna Award in Laxmi Vilas Palace, Vadodara
- It was awarded for his social contribution to pay off the loans of several farmers from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
- The first 2 recipients of the award were Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy and industrialist Ratan Tata.
- It was established in the memory of erstwhile Baroda ruler Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 2013 by the Baroda Management Association to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the ruler.
