- Ranjan Gogoi will on 3rd October succeed Dipak Misra as the 46th Chief Justice of India.
- Present Chief Justice of India recommended Justice Ranjan Gogoi, the most senior judge as his successor.
- It is a convention that an outgoing CJI recommends the name of his successor a month before retirement.
- Gogoi becomes the 1st CJI from the North East region.
- He will serve as CJI till his retirement on November 17, 2019.
