- The 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) inaugurated by bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was held in Panaji in Goa.
- The festival is conducted jointly by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals and the Government of Goa.

- Lifetime Achievement Award – Atom Egoyan
- Special Jury Award - Take-off (Malayalam Film-India).
- Best film - 120 Beats Per Minute (French movie) directed by Robin Campullo
- Best Actor (Male) award - Nahuel Perez Biscayart , Argentine actor.
- Best Actor (Female) award – Parvathy, a Indian actress
