4th National Serosurvey

  • The fourth round of national serosurvey was conducted in 70 districts across the country between June and July.
  • A total of 28,975 people were tested for the presence of SARS-CoV2 virus antibodies under this survey.
  • This serosurvey covered children between the age of 6-17 years as well for the first time.
  • It has found that up to two-thirds of the country’s population who are above the age of six have already been infected with the Coronavirus.
  • It was informed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General Dr Balram Bhargava.
  • The overall seroprevalence was found to be 67.6 percent in the entire population.
  • It has greatly reduced the possibility of a third wave being as severe as the second wave was.
  • The seroprevalence was 89.8 percent in those who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
  • It was 81 percent in those who have received one dose of the vaccine.
  • It was 62.3 percent in those who are yet to get a dose.
