China’s 2016 Olympic champion Liu Hong broke the world record in the 50 km race walk.
She finished 50 Km in 3 hours, 59 minutes and 15 seconds (3:59:15) at the Chinese Race Walk Grand Prix in Huangshan of China.
With this she become the first woman to break the 4-hour barrier in the event.
She clipped more than five minutes from the previous record of 4:04:36 set by China’s Liang Rui at the IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships in Taicang of China in 2018.
She now holds the world record for both the 20 km and 50 km distances, having clocked 1:24:38 in La Coruna, Spain in 2015 for the 20 km distance.
