The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is India's primary border patrol organization with its border with Tibet (China).
The ITBP was raised in the aftermath of the 1962 Chinese aggression.
It was raised on 24 October 1962, under the CRPF Act.
It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces of India (CAPF) or Paramilitary Forces of India.
CAPF refers to uniform nomenclature of five security forces in India under the authority of Ministry of Home Affairs.
Their role is to defend the national interest mainly against the internal threats.
They are the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Assam Rifles (AR) and National Security Guard.
