- The government of India has announced the theme for this year is Viksit Bharat@2047 or Developed India.
- Prime Minister addressed the nation from the Red Fort for the 11th consecutive time.
- This was making him the third PM after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to do so.
- The 2024 PM’s 98-min Independence Day address becomes his longest-ever Independence Day speech.
- Before him, Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947 and IK Gujral in 1997 had the longest speeches at 72 and 71 minutes, respectively.
- Nehru and Indira also gave the shortest speeches on record at 14 minutes in 1954 and 1966, respectively.
- Around 400 women representatives from Panchayati Raj Institutions invited as special guests at the Red Fort.
