- The 77th anniversary of the Quit India Movement was observed on 8 August.
- On this date in 8 Aug 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave a clarion call to end the British rule and launched the Quit India Movement at the Bombay session of the All-India Congress Committee.
- Saudi Arabia has announced a change in its law that will allow women to obtain passports and travel internationally without being escorted by a male “guardian”. This system was known as Guardianship system.
