World Students' Day is celebrated every year on October 15 on former president Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam's birthday.
The day is commemorated on his birth anniversary because Dr Kalam was a dedicated teacher and identified himself foremost in that role before anything else.
In 2010, the United Nations declared October 15 to be World Students' Day.
He was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan in 1981 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 for his work with ISRO and DRDO by the Government of India.
In 1997, he was also honoured with 'Bharat Ratna' for his contribution to the scientific research and modernisation of defence technology in India.
