- World Students' Day is celebrated every year on October 15 on former president Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam's birthday.
- The day is commemorated on his birth anniversary because Dr Kalam was a dedicated teacher and identified himself foremost in that role before anything else.
- In 2010, the United Nations declared October 15 to be World Students' Day.
- He was bestowed with the Padma Bhushan in 1981 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 for his work with ISRO and DRDO by the Government of India.
- In 1997, he was also honoured with 'Bharat Ratna' for his contribution to the scientific research and modernisation of defence technology in India.
