- India has flight-tested the indigenously developed Agni-I missile that can carry a nuclear payload as part of a user trial by the Army from a test range off the Odisha coast.
- It was 18th version of Agni-1 and it is indigenously developed intermediate range surface-to-surface, single-stage missile.
- Agni-I ispart of India’s minimum credible deterrence under No first to use policy.
- It was developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) in collaboration with Defence Research Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Centre Imarat (RCI).
- The missile has a specialised navigation system, which ensures it reaches the target with a high degree of accuracy and precision.
- The missile already has been inducted into the armed forces in 2004.
