India has flight-tested the indigenously developed Agni-I missile that can carry a nuclear payload as part of a user trial by the Army from a test range off the Odisha coast.
It was 18th version of Agni-1 and it is indigenously developed intermediate range surface-to-surface, single-stage missile.
Agni-I ispart of India’s minimum credible deterrence under No first to use policy.
It was developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) in collaboration with Defence Research Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Centre Imarat (RCI).
The missile has a specialised navigation system, which ensures it reaches the target with a high degree of accuracy and precision.
The missile already has been inducted into the armed forces in 2004.
