- The 10th edition of the AIBA (International Boxing Association) Women's World Championships was held in New Delhi.
- MC Mary Kom created history by defeating Ukraine's Hanna Okhota in the 48 kg final to win a record sixth gold at the World Championship.
- She beat the record of Irish boxer, Katie taylor who had earlier won five world titles.
- Mary had won the previous titles in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010.
- Sonia Chahal settled for silver after losing to Wahner Ornella Gabriele of Germany in the 57 kg final.
- The 21-year old Haryana boxer won the silver medal in her maiden world championships.
- India hosted the tournament for the second time after 2006, when the country topped the table with eight medals (4 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze).
