  • According to the Central Pollution Control Board Chennai’s pollution levels rose to 302 which is slightly less than Delhi’s 319. Delhi is the city where smog and pollution usually touches higher toxic level during Diwali season.
 
  • The Air Quality Index (AQI), a six-rung classification scale that rates air quality from ‘good’ to ‘severe’, downgraded air quality in Chennai from ‘satisfactory’ on October 16 to ‘poor’ and ‘very poor’.
  • India has topped the list of countries with pollution-related deaths in 2015, with 2.51 million people dying prematurely in the country that year due to diseases linked to air, water and other forms of pollution, according to a new study published in the reputed medical journal, The Lancet.
