- The Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is caused by infection with a tick-borne virus (Nairovirus) in the family Bunyaviridae.
- The disease was first characterized in the Crimea in 1944 and was given the name Crimean hemorrhagic fever.
- The disease was discovered to be the cause of illness in the Congo in 1969.
- The Congo fever is transmitted to humans to through contact with the blood of infected animals and by eating the meat of infected animals.
